Synthite Industries Ltd is a global leader in Spice Oleoresins and other Plant-Derived Natural Product Solutions. The brain child of Mr. C V Jacob, Synthite started off in 1972 by manufacturing oleoresin pepper. Synthite contributes over 35 per cent of the total production of oleoresins with six manufacturing units in India. The company has an annual turnover of over Rs 700crore and has set a target of Rs. 3000crore by 2020.

A diversified conglomerate, Synthite has six business verticals namely, Bio Ingredients, Spice, Farm Tech, Hospitality, Realty and Wind Energy. The group activities include Riviera Suites, an apartment hotel first of its kind in Kerala and Ramada Resort Cochin, a boutique resort on the banks of Lake Kumbalam.

The company has an exceptional record in employee relations. The group employs about 1800 people; for the past 39 years it has not lost a single day for labor unrest. The social awareness and commitment to the poor and needy prompted Synthite to establish the CVJ Foundation which focuses on education, health care and housing schemes and carries out various community development programs throughout the year.

Synthite has won National Awards for outstanding export performance during the years 1976-77, 1977-78, 1978-79, 1983-84 and 1990-91 from the President of India, and export awards and rolling trophies of Spices Board regularly from 1976 onwards.


Mr. CV Jacob, a visionary industrialist, set up Synthite Industries Limited, four decades ago, marking a historical departure from the centuries-old practice of selling spices in the bulk. Today, Synthite is the global leader in oleoresin industry with world’s best food processing companies as its clients.

Born in 1933 in an Orthodox Christian family at Kolenchery, Mr. Jacob started his career in cardamom trade and auctions. In 1951 at the age of 18, he took up the family business of civil engineering contracts. Several major infrastructure projects like Idukki, Sabarigiri, Kallarkutty hydel projects and National Highways have Mr. Jacob’s signature. As Director of CIAL and one of the earlier investors of the project, Mr. Jacob oversaw the entire engineering and civil contract work of the airport and ensured its timely completion.

Mr. Jacob’s pioneering spirit did not limit itself to industry. Long before the corporate world took note of the concept of corporate social responsibility, Mr. Jacob began ploughing back huge sums into the society in which his company operated. Today, CVJ Foundation is one of the few professionally managed CSR divisions of a corporate house in Kerala. It has spent several crores of rupees and completed projects in housing, medical care, medical insurance, education and drinking water over the years.

A septuagenarian, Mr. Jacob lives a very active professional and community life. He holds several offices including that of the Secretary, St: Peter's College, Kolenchery (since 1987), Executive Member and advisor to, Malankara Orthodox Syrian Church Medical College, Kolenchery and also served as Vice-Chairman of the Spices Board. Widely travelled, Mr. Jacob is a member of several Professional Organizations in India and abroad like Institute of Food Technologies & American Spice Trade Association.

Various governments and other organizations have honored Mr. Jacob for his contributions to the industry and society at large. They include the Udyog Patra award from the Vice-President of India, Kerala Management Leadership Award and Ethical Business Person.
