WOMEN EMPOWERMENT INITIATIVE

TiE Kerala had identified Women Entrepreneurship as a major initiative for the year 2006-07 since, in Kerala, there were a large number of highly educated, skilled women who had the potential to become successful entrepreneurs, were idling as housewives, part-time associates, with little or no involvement in their family businesses. There were also large numbers of women who were coming out of engineering, medical and other professional colleges, every year who remain unemployed.
Targeting these segments TiE Kerala conducted a three-day workshop on “Women Entrepreneurship” on 19th, 20th & 21st of January 2006. A copy of the brochure taken out in this connection is attached.
The faculty for the program consisted of 16 successful women entrepreneurs and 15, professionals from fields like, HR, Accounts and Finance, Banking, Health Tourism, Management Consultants, IT, etc.
There were total of 35 participants (all women) for the workshop. Out of these, five participants have already started their own businesses and many are in the process of setting up their own ventures. We have conducted few follow up sessions and are in touch with them constantly. Nine of them have become Associate Members of TiE Kerala and often attend our monthly programs.
We planned to launch TiE Kerala Women’s Forum during the forthcoming TiE India Charter Member Retreat scheduled for April 27th, 28th & 29th 2007 at Munnar.
